Close lots, porch roofs and older additions
In older blocks the roofline is rarely a single clean plane. A front porch roof joins a main roof, a rear addition has a different pitch and a small dormer sits on one side. Each junction needs proper flashing, and each is a likely source of water in a thaw.
Low-slope porch and addition roofs deserve extra care. Shingles on a very shallow pitch can allow water to back up under them, particularly where ice builds. These areas sometimes call for a different roofing material, such as a membrane or a metal panel. Tight lots also affect where a dumpster and ladders can go, and we discuss that with you ahead of time so neighbors are not surprised.
